East Dundee police: Armed suspect holds up business
An man armed with a gun held up two employees of an East Dundee Check Into Cash business early Wednesday night and ransacked the shop, police said.
The man showed a dark colored handgun and demanded cash from the two women at 5 p.m. They were the only two in the business located at 551 Dundee Avenue, police said.
“He cleaned out the currency in the two cash drawers and demanded cash from other storage areas in the store,” said East Dundee Police Chief Terry Mee.
The man, who was described a Hispanic in his early 30s wearing dark clothing, forced the two women into a bathroom in the rear of the store and told them to wait for a certain period of time, police said.
“They could hear him ransack areas of the store for more cash,” Mee said.
Police responded to the location after an employee sounded a holdup alarm, but the suspect had fled in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of money, Mee said.
Police are looking at surveillance tape from the store, but a canvass of the area immediately following the robbery came up empty.
