Mundelein theater group gets $4,000 gift

The Kirk Players community theater group received an unexpected gift during the recent holiday season.

Sheila Bourque, president of the Mundelein-based theater group, received a $4,000 check from the president of the local health care service company where she works.

“I’m usually not speechless, but it took me by such surprise, I didn’t know what to say,” said Bourque, who is also responsible for the group’s grant development. “There are no restrictions, other than the request to remain anonymous.”

Bourque called the timing of the gift “incredible.”

“Everyone knows the arts are going through a difficult time right now, and we’re no exception,” she said. “This gives us a leg up on next season.”

The group, midway through its 46th season, is in production with Mundelein High School theater department and will present the drama “David and Lisa” on Feb. 2-4.

Founded by John W. Lynn in 1965, the Kirk Players group has been a community fixture.

Unlike many community theater groups, the Kirk Players does not have its own playhouse. It depends on alliances with partners including Mundelein High School and Cuneo Mansion and Gardens to rent space.

Additional information about the group can be found at kirkplayers.org.
