Two men charged in pizza restuarant robberies

Two 22-year-old men face felony robbery charges after allegedly holding up pizza restaurants in six Western suburbs, authorities said Tuesday.

The most recent robbery — the third in Naperville — happened at 10:15 p.m. Monday at a restaurant on the 1200 block of West Ogden Avenue, Naperville police Sgt. Gregg Bell said Tuesday.

He said police had the two suspects under surveillance when the men fled the restaurant with $2,200 in cash. The men were apprehended after leading police on a foot chase for several blocks, Bell said.

Police also found a replica gun discarded during the pursuit, Bell said. No one was injured.

Cory M. Paytes of Montgomery, and Travis J. Gamble of Oswego, were charged with armed robbery, aggravated robbery and resisting a peace officer.

Naperville police had been following the suspects for the past several weeks in collaboration with police from Lisle, Plainfield, St. Charles, Yorkville and Oswego, Bell said.

Anyone with information about any of the robberies is asked to call the Naperville police investigations unit at (630) 420-6726 or call Naperville Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006.
