Tobie headed for Earthquakes
According to close sources to Judson University athletics, Grayslake graduate Mike Tobie has unofficially signed an undrafted free agent contract with the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer.
The Tourbeau Sports Group, which was at the MLS Super Draft last week, said Tobie was announced on the board as a player to be drafted. The 5-foot-10 forward was one of a handful of NAIA players listed on the board for drafting.
Tobie, who earned NCCAA All-American status last year, played for Judson in 2010 and 2011. In those two seasons for the Elgin university, he had 32 goals and 4 assists for 68 points. He took 143 shots with 72 on goal and also had 13 game-winning goals in 46 matches played. He started 45 of the 46 matches he played in.
He was a two-time All-CCAC second-team selection, won the CCAC player of the week five times and was the NCCAA national player of the week once.
Tobie, who graduated from Grayslake in 2004, also played for the College of Lake County.
