Seat belt law aims only for money

I am old enough to remember when the politicians first imposed the mandatory seat-belt use requirement on us. At that time they vowed it would always be a secondary offense and never a primary offense. Well, they then realized that they had a real moneymaker so, out went all the vows and promises and the seat belt requirement law became a primary offense.

It was so rigidly enforced that our politicians went so far as to have the police set up seat belt checkpoints. Now our politicians want to generate more revenue so, they are extending the use of seat belts to even those passengers in the rear seats.

I am a firm believer in the use of seat belts and I would never fail to use them. I am, however, most offended when our politicians tell us they are imposing laws upon us for our safety. This is a blatant lie. These laws are imposed upon us for the purpose of generating revenue and nothing more.

The seat belt law falls into the same category as the red-light camera use. Nothing to do with safety, everything to do with revenue generation.

So, I wish our politicians would consider improving the state financial situation by reducing spending and stop treating us citizens like idiots by lying and telling us they are imposing laws on us for our safety.

How about it, politicians, it would be most refreshing if we would start hearing you telling the truth to us not only for seat belt use but for every and any aspect of government you control.
