Health screenings offered by South Elgin Lions Clubs
Submitted by South Elgin Lions Club
Residents living in and around South Elgin can be screened using a painless ultrasound for strokes, abdominal aortic aneurysm and for osteoporosis through Life Line Screening. The complete screening package now includes a new Heart Rhythm screening, checking for irregular heartbeat, which is a major risk factor for stroke. Life Line Screening has screened more than 6 million participants since 1993 and is partnered with hospitals across the country. These screenings can save a life, as they did for a South Elgin Lion who participated in the 2009 screenings hosted by this club.
A stroke, also known as a “brain attack,” is ranked as the third leading killer in the world and 80 percent of strokes can be prevented. These screenings are fast, painless and affordable. They help identify potential health problems such as blocked arteries and irregular heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which is a strong predictor of heart disease.
The South Elgin Lions Club will hold this event with Life Line Screening on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Lions Club, 500 Fulton, South Elgin. Preregistration is required for all screenings. The stroke/carotid artery, heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial disease and the osteoporosis risk assessment screening package is $149 for all five tests. Individual tests are available upon request.
