Train derails in Wausau, hits terminal

WAUSAU, Wis. — A cleaning employee escaped injury in Wausau when three train cars derailed and slammed into a building in which she was working.

Fire officials say the train was heading north through Wausau when the cars derailed and hit a train yard office building owned by Canadian National Thursday evening. The derailed cars also flattened railroad crossing signs in its path.

Fire Lt. Douglas Flory says the cleaning employee was working away from the impact area and was not injured, but felt the building shake. WAOW-TV reports Canadian National is investigating why the train jumped the tracks.
