"Snowmaggeddon 2012" is coming. Up to 8-inches of snow is still being forecasted for later today, but the snow isn't expected to start until about 9 a.m. It'll also be blistery cold with a high of only 32 degrees with heavy winds makig wind chills feel like temperatures are in the teens. Year's first major snowstorm expected today

Prepare yourself for a treacherous afternoon commute. A blustering snowstorm is headed toward the suburbs and is expected to begin dropping flakes late this morning. Meteorologists predict up to 8 inches of snow in the end. A winter weather advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. today until 9 a.m. Friday. Winds gusts of up to 35 mph are possible, and visibility is expected to be low. Full story

Very quiet out there this morning to start your morning commute, with only normal congestion to report throughout the system. However, people are warned to have cold weather gear and have an extra blanket in their car for the afternoon commute during the snow storm. You never know what could happen, and its best to stay prepared. Officials from the Illinois Department of Transportation says they are prepared for the coming snowstorm, but be careful out there tonight. It's going to be brutal. Full traffic.

Navy recruit's sudden death during boot camp under investigation

An autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon on a 19-year-old Navy recruit who collapsed and died during a trainer exercise at the Great Lakes Naval Station yesterday. Christopher Walker of Pennsylvania “suddenly collapsed” during a physical training exercise and was pronounced dead shortly after at a hospital on the base. Full story

Attorneys claim ‘medical emergency' caused 2009 baby abandonment

The attorneys for Nunu Sung, who abandoned her baby under a bush in June 2009 but is fighting to regain custody of the child, argued yesterday that Sung thought she was going to die after giving birth and moved the baby to a “safer place.” Sung labored for seven hours in a cousin's backyard and experienced major blood loss before passing out at home, according to her attorney. The boy's court-appointed guardian said she would adopt the boy if Sung was found unfit to regain custody. Full story

Palatine man murders 22-year-old daughter of ex-girlfriend

A Palatine man ambushed and killed the 22-year-old daughter of his ex-girlfriend inside her Mundelein home yesterday and held the victim's mother hostage for several hours before killing himself, police said. Genneadily Plaksa, 42, stabbed Alina S. Rybnikova to death early yesterday and injured her 45-year-old mother. The mother was being treated at an area hospital in good condition last night. Health officials investigating Bob Chinns-related sicknesses

Bob Chinn's Crab House in Wheeling was back open for dinner last night after shutting down Tuesday due to a number of calls from patients who felt ill after eating at the restaurant. Cook County health officials said seven people were confirmed to have a gastrointestinal illness as of yesterday morning, but test results would not be in for a couple of days. Full story

GOP opponent Jack Cunningham challenges Judy Biggert's signatures

Kane County Clerk Jack Cunningham filed a challenge to more than 700 of longtime U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert's signatures to enter the race in the 11th Congressional District. Cunningham, who also hopes to run in the 11th, has sat on numerous electoral boards over the years that have booted candidates from races. Biggert says she isn't worried about the challenge, and her supporters said even if the 700 were deemed illegitimate, she would still have enough left over. Full story

Katy Perry dominates People's Choice Awards

Singer-actress Katy Perry won the most People's Choice Awards at last night's 38th annual fan-favorite extravaganza. Perry, who was absent from the ceremony, was honored in five categories, including favorite female artist, tour headliner, song of the year for “E.T.” with Kanye West, music video for “Last Friday Night,” and TV guest star for “How I Met Your Mother.” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” followed behind Perry with four wins for favorite movie, action movie, book adaptation and ensemble movie cast, but the film's stars also weren't present at the ceremony. Rose's replacement leads bulls to win with 25

Derrick Rose sat out his first game in more than a year last night, but John Lucas III — who started for the first time in his 70-game career — took the reins and dropped 25 points, 8 assists and 8 rebounds to beat the Washington Wizards 78-64. “When you see the W's keep stacking up, you don't question how you got it,” Luol Deng said. Rose said he aggravated a turf-toe injury in Tuesday night's game. Full story
