Update on winter operations in Naperville
Residents Encouraged to Search Interactive Snow Removal Map on City's Website for Updates; Winter Storm Warning in Effect Through Friday
The City of Naperville has begun plowing and salting operations for the winter storm anticipated to last through Friday. Twenty-three department of public works and seven contractor plows are plowing all streets currently, with approximately 50 plows expected on the roads as cul-de-sac clearing operations begin later today. As of 3 p.m., the city has received approximately two and a half inches of snow, with six to nine inches expected by the time the storm ends.
Residents are encouraged to search an interactive map by their address for specific snow removal progress at http://gis.naperville.il.us/mashups/snowroutes. A mobile friendly version is available to view at http://bit.ly/napersnow. All calls regarding the winter storm should continue to be directed to city dispatch at (630) 420-6187. Regular updates about plowing efforts will continue to be posted to www.naperville.il.us.
“As conditions continue to deteriorate this afternoon, we encourage motorists to slow down on the roads and exercise caution while driving,” Community Relations Manager Nadja Lalvani said. “There have been multiple accidents reported on area roadways today, and the safety of our residents and commuters remains our top priority.”
Residents are asked to assist DPW crews in snow removal efforts by remembering to not park on the street during this snow event, as parked cars are an obstacle to snow plows and plowing around cars leaves large areas of snow and ice on the roadway.
The National Weather Service has now issued a Winter Storm Warning for the entire area through 9 a.m. Friday morning. The latest weather forecasts can be obtained by visiting www.weather.gov.
