Settlement reached in Rosemont Crowne Plaza strike

The Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare hotel in Rosemont reached a tentative settlement Wednesday with 11 unionized shuttle drivers and bellmen who went on strike Monday.

The workers’ previous five-year contract expired Dec. 31, said Maggie Jenkins, communications director for Teamsters Local 727, which represents the workers.

“The union plans to hold a ratification vote with members either Thursday or Friday,” Jenkins said.

A management spokeswoman could not be reached for comment late Wednesday.

The workers voted unanimously to strike after agreement could not be reached at the last negotiation meeting on Dec. 29. Talks with management resumed Wednesday afternoon.

The union had filed an unfair labor practice complaint with the National Labor Relations Board against the Rosemont hotel for bargaining in bad faith.

Local 727 represents roughly 6,200 members, including shuttle bus drivers and bellmen at other suburban hotels, CVS and Osco pharmacists, and valet and parking attendants at about 850 locations throughout the city and suburbs.
