Breakfast to benefit Habitat for Humanity
Submitted by Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity
The 15th annual pancake breakfast to benefit Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity of Aurora will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Aurora Advent Christian Church, 905 N. Edgelawn Drive. The public is invited. Tickets are $7 each. Children under age 10 are free.
The menu includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee, milk, and orange juice.
The annual Habitat fundraiser is sponsored by the church’s Ministry Committee. A dozen volunteers will prepare and serve the breakfast.
Beth Conover, breakfast coordinator said, “Our church annually hopes to contribute $1,000 to support the housing ministry of Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity. This breakfast helps raise the money to do that.”
Fox Valley Habitat is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Inc., a nonprofit housing ministry that partners with low-income families needing basic shelter.
After a hiatus due to a downturn in donations, Fox Valley Habitat volunteers are planning to resume construction in Aurora or Montgomery in partnership with deserving families during 2012.
Founded in 1989, Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity has dedicated 44 homes in the Aurora area.
The Aurora Habitat affiliate has attracted 1,000 volunteers and has built affordable shelter for more than 200 persons in Aurora and Montgomery.
Habitat sells houses to qualified families at no profit. Partnering families contribute up to 500 hours of sweat equity and repay a zero-interest mortgage. Loan payments are used to build more houses.
Donations of materials, land, funds, and volunteer services are needed to continue the Aurora ministry. For information, call (630) 859-3333 or visit www.foxvalleyhabitat.org.
