Mayor needs to follow through

First, I would like to congratulate Don Cummings on being named Geneva Alderman to represent the 2nd Ward. He will do a fantastic job.

In a recent article about the appointment, an email I sent to Mayor Kevin Burns was mentioned. The point of the email was that Mayor Burns called me an hour and a half before the meeting to tell me he had selected someone for the position. My only issue is that I “applied” for the position on Dec. 9 and have two emails from Mayor Burns stating that he planned to sit down with everyone who applied.

My call from the mayor came at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3. The announcement was made to aldermen the previous Thursday.

I copied the reporters to show how Mayor Burns operates. When a resident shows a willingness to contribute, no matter their background, they should given the same courtesy given to other candidates. When the Mayor of Geneva says that he will meet with you in person or by phone, he should stay true to his word.

This appointment, to my knowledge, was done in total secrecy. As we all know too well, secrecy is what has contributed to the current state of affairs that the entire country, especially Illinois, now lives under.

In this case, the right person was chosen but the process was flawed. How many residents actually showed interest? Was it three or five? The article mentions both numbers. The residents of Geneva will never know.

Mayor Burns’ noncomment to the Daily Herald reporter reveals his true character.
