United Continental December traffic down, revenue up

CHICAGO — United Continental Holdings, Inc. said its operations in December decreased slightly over the previous years.

In releasing its monthly operational performance report, the Chicago-based airline said its combined United and Continental consolidated traffic (revenue passenger miles) decreased 0.7 percent in December, in comparison to last year, on a combined consolidated capacity (available seat miles) decrease of 0.1 percent.

The carriers’ combined consolidated load factor in December decreased 0.5 points compared to the same period in 2010.

United and Continental’s December combined consolidated and mainline passenger revenue per available seat mile increased an estimated 4 to 5 percent and 3.5 to 4.5 percent, respectively, as compared to December 2010.
