Wis. DNR: 15 dams in line for grants

MADISON, Wis. — The state Department of Natural Resources says 15 publicly owned dams around Wisconsin are in line for $3.5 million in grants to cover repairs, removal or replacement.

DNR officials say the dams scored the highest on a priority list that ranked dams according to the risk they pose to people or property downstream, the cost of the proposed work and owners' financial need.

The municipalities that own the dams now must submit detailed project plans to the DNR. The structures include dams in Adams, Washburn, Trempealeau, Oconto, Walworth, Portage, Ozaukee, Fond du Lac, Crawford, Juneau, Dodge, Price and Milwaukee counties.
