Pavement waves lead to repairs on US 24 upgrade
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — An Indiana highway official says the state is expected to pay more than $1 million to repair pavement on the improved U.S. 24 highway near Fort Wayne.
Indiana Department of Transportation District Director Bob Alderman tells The Journal Gazette that material used to treat the ground beneath the pavement reacted chemically with the soil and caused waves to form in a 1.6-mile section of the highway. .
Alderman says the state will bear the costs of the repairs.
He says the repairs are not expected to delay the schedule fall completion of Indiana’s portion of the so-called Fort to Port project connecting Fort Wayne and Toledo.
