Crystal Lake church to host viol, harpsichord concert
On Sunday, Jan. 15, Phillip W. Serna, viola da gamba, and Emily Jane Morlan, harpsichord, will celebrate music of the French Baroque in a concert at 3 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 W. Crystal Lake Ave. in Crystal Lake.
After the free performance, the audience will be invited to view these unique instruments.
Serna, founder and music director of the Early Music outreach program Viols in Our Schools, is the Early Music America’s Outreach Award recipient of 2010.
In addition to teaching privately around the Chicago area, he is instructor of double bass and viola da gamba at Valparaiso University in Indiana.
Emily Jane Morlan maintains an active performing schedule in the Chicago area as a pianist and harpsichordist. She is a founding member and harpsichordist of the Antiqua Baroque Consort, and teaches at Concordia University Chicago and North Central College.
