Buffalo Grove, Waste Management team up for safety program

Buffalo Grove is teaming with Waste Management to establish an expanded community safety program in which the company’s drivers are trained to assist local police and emergency services agencies by reporting suspicious activity and emergency situations.

Under Waste Management’s WasteWatch program, drivers are equipped with radios and mobile phones and have resources to communicate with authorities if they see anything out of the ordinary.

“Local law enforcement agencies and company security personnel train the drivers on what to look for with regard to the local issues concerning the communities they serve,” said Anthony Farneti, Midwest Director of Security for Waste Management. “After completing the training, our drivers have a better idea of what to look for and a process to communicate with local officials.”

Approximately 15 Waste Management drivers and route supervisors are participating in the program.

“Waste Management’s WasteWatch program will expand our public safety services by putting more eyes and ears on the street,” said Buffalo Grove Village President Jeff Braiman. “It’s one more way we can look out for our residents, enhance their safety, and make the quality of life in Buffalo Grove even better. We welcome our partnership with Waste Management.”
