EPA all but ensures brownouts

The EPA utility rule issued this Christmas season, recently reported by The Wall Street Journal, is a green agenda mandate likely to turn to brownouts in our future.

The rule’s 1,117 pages are expected to shut down many coal-fired power plants putting the reliability of our electric grid at risk.

From a cost/benefit perspective power plants are being charged by the EPA with spending $9.6 billion for $6 million of mercury reduction climate change benefit. For power plants that can’t pass the retrofit costs onto their customers within the EPA time line, the utilities will need to disclose in advance the impact of noncompliance. The new rule requires power firms to forecast whether a plant will be shut down and whether it will result in regional brownouts or, worse yet, blackouts.

In the spirit of protecting our climate the regulatory dictators at the EPA issued an edict effectively crippling our electrical grid. The new regulations risk irreparable damage to our economy, restricting business and job growth as well as degrading our global competitiveness.

When voting red or blue in 2012 remember the true color of the Obama administration’s green agenda is brown.
