Chicago Wolves roar back against Monsters

The Chicago Wolves erased a 1-0 first-intermission deficit with 3 goals in the second period en route to a 3-1 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters in front of a season-high 15,319 Saturday night at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont.

Darren Haydar had a goal and 2 assists, Steve Reinprecht notched a goal and an assist and Chris Tanev chipped in a pair of assists for the Wolves (18-12-1-3), who captured their sixth home victory in seven contests.

“We started slow, but I was happy we were only down one after the first period,” said Wolves coach Craig MacTavish. “It was a good step for our team to turn it around in the second and hold on for the victory.”

Trailing 1-0, the Wolves (18-12-1-3) knotted the score 6:42 into the second period when Bill Sweatt wristed a shot past screened Monsters goaltender Trevor Cann.

The Wolves scored what proved to be the game-winner on a power play when Reinprect converted a rebound off Mark Mancari’s shot at 9:26 of the second period. Just 2:44 later, Hayard gave the Wolves a 3-1 lead.

Goalie Matt Climie (10-5-0) posted 19 saves for the Wolves, who host the Charlotte Checkers at 3 p.m. today.
