Unions are in charge of the remap
The recent editorial saying that “voters” should do something about the way Illinois politicians remap congressional boundaries seems to me to be very naive. What voters can change anything? The unions in Illinois, public and private, want Democrats to retain power wherever the Democrats may be; and so does the overwhelming majority of Chicagoans; and so do the pensioners and others on the public dole.
The fewer politicians in opposition, the better and easier political life is for the big spenders — of other people’s money. I also suspect that the Republicans would happily remap to eliminate unwanted opposition if ever they have another chance.
