Search on after Wisconsin hunter says he was fired upon

ELKHORN, Wis. — Walworth County authorities are looking for a person suspected of opening fire on a deer hunter with a handgun.

The sheriff’s office says it received a report of a shooting incident Saturday about 8:30 a.m. in the public hunting grounds of the Kettle Moraine Forest.

A caller told dispatchers he and his father were legally hunting deer and wearing blaze orange. The father told his son another unknown male hunter wearing camouflage or similar clothing fired at him once with a handgun. The father fired back with his 30-06 hunting rifle.

Neither the father nor son was hurt. Deputies say it’s unknown whether the other male was hurt.

Authorities are conducting a full search of the area using SWAT and K9 teams, wardens and a police helicopter.
