Ind. Revenue Department expands freefile program

INDIANAPOLIS — The state Department of Revenue has added two more companies to its list of tax preparation vendors that provide e-file services under the Indiana free-file program.

The department has ended its in-house electronic income tax filing system and instead is allowing taxpayers to select from six members of the Free File Alliance for e-filing of their state income tax returns. Each vendor has different criteria for determining if the e-filing is free. Taxpayers can determine if they qualify by going the Indiana free-file website at www.freefile.dor.in.gov .

The Revenue Department estimates about 1 million Indiana taxpayers will qualify. The six vendors are 1040 Now, H&R Block, Online Tax, TaxHawk, Tax Slayer and TurboTax.
