Motorola Mobility estimates ‘modest’ profit in 4Q

PRNewswire

LIBERTYVILLE — Motorola Mobility announced preliminary results for the fourth-quarter 2011, estimating sales of $3.4 billion with “modest profitability” for the quarter.

The company said in a release that estimates include shipments of approximately 10.5 million mobile devices, of which approximately 5.3 million were smartphones. The fourth-quarter results were affected by an increased competitive environment in the mobile device business and higher legal costs associated with ongoing Intellectual Property litigations.

The company estimates sales of $900 million for the home business in the fourth-quarter.

Motorola Mobility will issue its fourth-quarter 2011 earnings results Jan. 26.

Shareholders approved a $12.5 billion deal to be acquired by California-based last year, and expects the transaction to close in early 2012.
