Editing omitted insight on Obama
The television news magazine “60 Minutes” provided President Obama with yet another free campaign forum last month under the guise of an in-depth, hard-hitting interview. Through selective editing, the one true insight of how the president sees himself wasn’t shared with the viewing public.
The president, with a lot of self-satisfaction and hubris announced that he would compare his administration’s accomplishments with any other president, save for FDR, Johnson and Lincoln. That’s some company he’s put himself squarely in the middle of, since he failed to mention George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and even Bill Clinton.
How convenient that CBS didn’t think it was worthwhile to provide their viewers with the one truly honest assessment, a self-assessment at that, that he provided. His signature “accomplishment,” health care reform isn’t mentioned anywhere, by anyone, including himself.
At least Bill Clinton, brought along kicking and screaming, by a Republican Congress reformed welfare and balanced a budget. A balanced budget today would garner President Obama a place on Mount Rushmore, where he deems himself already worthy, so why bother doing anything meaningful that would qualify him to actually place his accomplishments in the same sentence with Bill Clinton’s.
