Naper Settlement a one-stop shop for brides-to-be
Once the ring was on her finger, Becca Givens wasn't just planning for the day she would gracefully glide down an aisle in a white dress.
The Naperville woman got engaged in August, weeks after learning she would be coordinating Naper Settlement's Bridal Showcase. She's arranged a lineup of 40 vendors for the showcase, opening at 5:30 p.m. Friday and continuing at 10 a.m. Saturday. Givens also will join brides-to-be seeking consultations and advice on decisions ranging from invitations and party favors to cakes and flowers.
#8220;It's always something I think about,#8221; said Givens, 23, a guest services representative at Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville.
Grooms also will have plenty to do, browsing tuxedos from Lisle-based Lorenzo's Tailoring Formalwear, planning honeymoons through travel agencies, or selecting wedding tunes from Chicago-based DJ's.
#8220;You can get everything in one stop,#8221; Givens said.
The free event attracts about 300 people to the settlement's Pre-Emption House and Century Memorial Chapel, so couples can imagine an intimate, historic setting for their wedding and consider hosting it at the chapel.
Givens recommends they seek as much information as possible from the vendors at the showcase to help ease any bridezilla stress.
#8220;It's a big step in everybody's life,#8221; she said.
And with her wedding set for August, Givens hopes she can finalize some of the details of the day along with local brides-to-be.
#8220;They've dreamed of it their whole lives,#8221; she said.
