Investigators sift through leads to cop’s slaying
Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says investigators are looking at a significant number of leads into the slaying last week of an off-duty police officer.
McCarthy says the department is getting a lot of cooperation from the West Side community where Officer Clifton Lewis was shot to death while working as a security guard at a convenience store.
The 41-year-old officer was an eight-year police veteran. Chicago police say they have leads in the case, but have made no arrests. Reward offers totaling $20,000 have been made seeking information.
Police officers spent Wednesday handing out fliers, urging residents of the Austin neighborhood to continue to come forward with information that could lead to an arrest.
A funeral service for Lewis is scheduled for Thursday, followed by a private burial.
