Motorola Mobility to display a smart home, streaming TV
Libertyville-based Motorola Mobility Inc. soon will be showing off its 4Home Connected Gateway to help homeowners take more mobile control of their homes.
The new device will connect your home lighting, security, thermostat, and other network-based services and allow you to remotely control them. It operates over a broadband connection and takes the various technologies of each system, carries them into a portal in the cloud, and then translates them into a universal technology language that will work throughout the house. Consumers then can remotely control those services in their home via their smartphone, tablet or PC, said Leon Hounshell, division general manager of Managed Home Solutions at Motorola Mobility.
“You will be able to go anywhere after that. It provides a total mobile experience for your home,” said Hounshell.
The device will be offered in the Chicago suburban area later this year through a service provider. Moto won’t disclosed what company that will be yet. But Hounshell said it’s similar to what Verizon’s connected home services in other states has been doing. Comcast Corp., which has its Midwest headquarters in Schaumburg, also has said it will offer similar services in the Chicago suburban area this year as well.
“Over the next few years, we will be rolling out new technology that will make the consumer experience a lot more easier,” Hounshell said.
Moto is displaying the new device, along with several others, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week.
Also at the show, Moto is rolling out Televation, which allows you to watch live TV on your tablet anywhere in your home. The device delivers a full cable subscription with all the regular channels onto your tablet wirelessly.
