NW Symphony to feature CSO oboist
The Northwest Symphony Orchestra, winner of multiple awards from the Illinois Council of Orchestras, will hold its second concert in its 60th anniversary season at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, in the Theatre for the Performing Arts at Maine West High School, 1755 S. Wolf Road, Des Plaines.
The winter concert, “NSO Revisited,” will feature oboe soloist Michael Henoch, assistant principal oboe of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Henoch will perform Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari’s Idillio Concertino for Oboe and Orchestra. Completing the program will be two well-known compositions that appeared on the NSO’s opening concert in May 1953: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F minor (“Pastoral”) and “A Night on Bald Mountain” by Modeste Mussorgsky.
A preconcert commentary will be presented one hour prior to the concert by Carolyn Paulin, a producer and program host at radio station WFMT 98.7 Chicago.
The Northwest Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1951, has grown to include 70 instrumentalists, from talented students to music professionals, who meet weekly to play and enjoy great symphonic orchestral music and present this music to our community. Symphony members, whose ages range from the late teens to the 80s, live in Des Plaines and more than 45 surrounding communities.
Tickets are $20; $15 for seniors and $10 for students. Season tickets for the four-concert series are $60; $45 for seniors and $30 for students. Children under 14 are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
