First Community Blood Drive of the New Year Set For January

The Village has been sponsoring blood drives for more than 20 years with Heartland Blood Centers. The blood drives for 2012 will be held January 18, April 11, July 11 and September 12. The dates coincide with Heartland Blood Center's “Four Seasons of Giving” blood donation program.

“Our goal for the January blood drive is 212 pints,” said Carol Bauer, Executive Coordinator for the Village Manager and organizer of the Village blood drives. “But I'll take 300!” she remarked.

The January 18 blood drive in Lombard will occur in two locations. Earlier in the day from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Heartland Blood Center donation stations will be accepting donations in their Heartland MobileCoaches at Yorktown Center. Blood donors may alternatively choose to donate blood from 1:30-7 p.m. at the Lombard Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson.

All donors at the January blood drive will receive a $11 coupon for product at Oberweis and a coupon for a free pint of Culver's frozen custard.

“As we pause to reflect on the many blessings we have enjoyed during the holiday season, please remember that there are people who need the ‘gift of life – blood,'” said Lombard Village President William Mueller. “I want to thank you in advance for your assistance and support of this vital program,” he added.

Donors may request an appointment time by calling (630) 620-5712 or by email at bauerc@villageoflombard.org. Walk-in donors are also welcome. All blood donors must present a photo I.D. to donate blood.
