Brother of mauled Chicago jogger says victim recovers

The brother of a Chicago jogger mauled by two pit bulls says the victim, who was once given a 50 percent chance of survival, is now expected by doctors to live.

Gregory Finley on Tuesday said his brother, 62-year-old Joseph Finley, remains in critical, but stable condition at Stroger Hospital and has not been able to describe the attack because he has tubes in his throat.

Police killed the dogs following Monday’s attack on Joseph Finley, who was running on a path in Rainbow Beach Park on the city’s South Side.

Jimmie Johnson of Chicago faces possible fines of more than $2,000 for failing to restrain the dogs and failing to license them. City code allows fines of $1,000 if failing to restrain a dog leads to severe injuries.
