Report: Stortz leaving LZ for Rock Island
Bryan Stortz has been named the new Rock Island High School football coach, according to the Quad-Cities Dispatch.
A source familiar with the process, under condition of anonymity, said a verbal agreement has been reached between Stortz, but the selection cannot be made official until gaining board approval at the next board meeting, next Tuesday.
Phone calls to Stortz and Lake Zurich athletic director Rolly Vazquez on Tuesday were not returned.
According to the Quad-Cities Dispatch, Stortz beat out as many as 60 candidates from 15 states.
Stortz just completed his sixth season as Lake Zurich’s head coach.
He has a 62-16 record, with six playoff appearances.
The Bears won the Class 7A state championship in 2007, and finished second in 2006 and 2010. Lake Zurich reached the state semifinals this past season for the fifth time under Stortz.
Stortz would replace longtime Rocky coach Vic Boblett, who retired prior to last season.
Boblett is the most successful coach in Rocky history, leading the program to a 170-60 record in 21 years with 16 playoff berths, 11 Big 6 titles and the 1997 Class 5A state runner-up trophy.
