Chicago jogger mauled by pit bulls

Police in Chicago say a 62-year-old man is in critical condition after being mauled by two pit bulls.

Police spokesman Robert Perez says officers responding to a 911 call spotted the dogs near where the attack occurred. He says they shot and killed the dogs because they were going to attack them.

Perez says the man was jogging along Lake Michigan on the city's South Side at about 6 a.m. Monday when the dogs attacked him. Residents of nearby buildings called police after they heard the man calling for help.

Perez says the man was bitten all over his body, including his face. He says the man was rushed to Stroger Hospital.

Hospital officials haven't returned calls to discuss his condition.
