St. Charles hotel robbed at gunpoint, police say

The Super 8 hotel in St. Charles became the latest in a series of Tri-Cities area businesses to get robbed in the past two months when a man pulled a gun on an employee Thursday.

A police report indicates a white male walked into the hotel, on the 1500 block of East Main Street shortly after 2:30 a.m. The man displayed a gun and the employee handed over some cash and the robber fled the scene.

It was the seventh robbery with a similar series of events reported to area police since late October, but so far police have not made public any definite links between the crimes.

So far, a pizza place, two Subway restaurants, a bank, a video game store and a supermarket have all been hit in addition to the hotel. Three of the robberies occurred in St. Charles, two in North Aurora and one each in Geneva and Batavia. Each incident has involved one or two robbers, all believed to be men, brandishing or indicating they had some form of weapon.
