Highland Park family victims of home invasion where shot fired

A family of Highland Park residents was restrained by armed intruders who stole jewelry and other valuables from their home Friday night, police said.

The home invasion occurred about 10 p.m. on Winona Road north of Lake-Cook Road. The victims suffered minor injuries, police said.

Two men, at least one armed with a gun, forced their way into the house. A gunshot was fired, but none of the residents was hit, police said.

After restraining the victims, the thieves stole various items and then fled.

One of the residents called police after loosening his restraints, police said.

Police searched the area and other homes, but the intruders were not found.
