Central Illinois woman dies trying to retrieve dog

ROCHESTER, Ill. — Illinois State Police say a 28-year-old central Illinois woman trying to retrieve her dog died when she was struck by pickup truck on Illinois Rt. 29 in Rochester.

The State Journal-Register reports the woman died Friday evening at a local hospital. They say she was trying to get her dog after it got off its leash. The woman wasn't identified pending notification of family.

State police say it was dark outside and rainfall made visibility difficult. Authorities say the pickup truck driver stopped and no citations were issued.

Rochester is just outside Springfield.
