On your mark, get set, get married!
The nation's second most populous county is offering gifts to the first couple married in 2012.
Couples who want to be Cook County's first married couple next year should line up at the county clerk's office in downtown Chicago Tuesday. The office opens at 8:30 a.m.
Cook County officials say the ceremony will begin an hour after a couple is identified. The future husband and wife have to apply for a license and agree to be married immediately. A judge must waive the standard 24-hour waiting period.
Since 1991, Cook County Clerk David Orr has married the first newlyweds of the year.
The gifts this year include a weekend for two at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, tickets to “Green Day's American Idiot,” dinner and flowers.
