Deputies: Man falls off Jefferson County bridge

JEFFERSON, Wis. — The Jefferson County sheriff’s department says a Good Samaritan fell off a bridge when he stopped to help another driver.

The sheriff’s department says deputies responded to a crash on a bridge of State Highway 36 in the Town of Aztalan about 4:50 a.m. Thursday.

When they got there, they discovered 33-year-old Tyler Prichard of Jackson apparently had fallen into the Rock River.

Authorities believe Prichard fell from the bridge after stopping to help a woman involved in a crash on the icy bridge. After checking the driver’s condition, Prichard suggested they get off the road. He swung his leg over the bridge sidewall and fell into the river. Investigators believe he may not have realized he was over open water.

Rescue teams were still searching the river Thursday afternoon.
