Take a positive step to resolve old issues

“I have resolved that my mouth will not sin.” #8212; Psalm 17:3 (NIV)It#146;s that time again #8212; time for us to make a resolution for the new year.

You may wonder why should I do that? I only break it anyway.

A new year is like every new day, it#146;s a time for a new beginning. So, why not take advantage of a new starting point to resolve some of your old issues that aren#146;t working for you anymore?

I believe in Psalm 17:3, the psalmist may be describing a resolution he was desiring. He may have even used this verse as an affirmation he spoke to himself each time he was tempted to gossip, criticize, judge or complain. Maybe when his temper rose he blurted out curse words he wasn#146;t proud of and this verse kept his resolution in focus.

To help you stick with your new year#146;s resolution, which according to the dictionary actually means #147;resolve,#148; try picking a Scripture that deals with an issue you would like resolved this next year.

My friend told me she was going to try something different this year. She is going to pick one word that has significant meaning and describes what she is believing God to do for her this upcoming year.

Ever since she informed me of her decision, I started pondering a few words to choose that could work.

One of the words I pondered is #147;resolve.#148; It#146;s what a resolution is all about!

There are issues in our lives we desire and need solved once and for all, so we can move forward in joy, peace and confidence to fulfill our dreams. We may need a season of unemployment resolved; or some confusion resolved regarding what to do in a relationship, our finances or health issues (this includes weight loss). We may desire to feel better with our ability to make good choices or simply to stretch ourselves to give more of ourselves, and finances to help others in need.

Other words I#146;ve considered utilizing are: change, faith, heal, remove and help.

Our verse or affirmation should be reflected on and prayed about, so we know what word or verse to choose, and we should ask daily for God#146;s resolving power and wisdom to be released in our issue.

Whether we choose a simple word or a verse, having something to keep us centered on the change we are desiring can help us start out the new year with a more positive step toward obtaining our resolution.
