Lake Villa library announces bookmark winner

The Lake Villa District Library recently announced the winners of its BookArt Annual Contest for Kids, a yearly celebration of reading and creativity.

Last fall, the library invited children ages 5 to 12 to draw an original bookmark that illustrates a scene or character from their favorite book. They received more than 130 entries, which were judged by a panel of local art teachers. The winners are:

Ÿ Best of Show: Taylor Munson, 10, Hooper School

Ÿ First Place, ages 5-6: Anna Nelson, 6, Prince of Peace School

Ÿ Second Place, ages 5-6: Ava Mattson, 5, Thompson School

Ÿ Third Place, ages 5-6: Noelle Waldschmidt, 5, Prince of Peace School

Ÿ First Place, ages 7-9: Robyn Knight, 8, Hooper School

Ÿ Second Place, ages 7-9: Chloe Gorsuch, 9, Martin School

Ÿ Third Place: Ages 7-9: Cecilia Nam, Age 8, Millburn Central

Ÿ First Place, Ages 10-12: Nicole Carreon, Age 12, Palombi Middle School

Ÿ Second Place, Ages 10-12: Janica Chin, Age 12, Palombi Middle School

Ÿ Third Place, ages 10-12: Emily Beall, 10, Oakland School

Taylor Munson’s Best of Show-winning bookmark was selected to be printed professionally and distributed to all children who participate in the library’s Winter Reading Program.
