NEW LAW: January 1, 2012 Seat Belts A Must For Everyone

The new law promotes the “Click It or Ticket” program that is endorsed by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The program's goal, as stated on its website, is not to give out tickets, but rather to influence people to buckle up and prevent injuries and fatalities.

Research proves that the certainty of a ticket and costly fines convince people to “Click It.” As the number one leading cause of death and disability for Americans between the ages of 4 and 34, motor vehicle crashes are a serious public health problem.

“The ‘Click It or Ticket' program plays a critical role in our efforts to promote safety while in a vehicle,” stated Raymond Byrne, Lombard Police Chief. “The Lombard Police Department is a proud proponent of saving lives by encouraging motorists to buckle up,” he added.
