Geneva students send holiday notes to our troops overseas

Geneva Middle School South students in Christina Lindahl’s Spanish classes recently completed a community service project that will send “Happy Holiday” notes and care packages to military men and women stationed overseas.

Students recently studied Three Kings Day, a Latin American and Spanish holiday during which children leave their shoes out on the eve of Jan. 5 in hopes that the “Reyes Magos” (Three Kings) will leave them gifts in their shoes while they sleep.

Geneva students filled cut-out paper “shoes” with donated items such as personal care items, snacks, playing cards, and batteries, along with notes thanking soldiers for their service and wishing them “Happy Holidays” and a safe return home.

The packages were given to Fox Valley Troop Support Inc., which sent the packages to men and women in the military stationed overseas this holiday season.
