Ignore lies spread by the ‘wing-nuts’

I recently overheard a conversation between two senior citizens who were obviously very unhappy with the current administration in Washington. One man had six reasons why President Obama “should be impeached.”

Imagine my surprise when his six reasons were fairy tales. They not only had no basis in fact but were so outrageous they had to originate from extreme right-wing-nuts in the various media. Sadly, these nice old fellows had been duped and seduced by very clever, persuasive people who regularly employ a variety of lies, half-truths and doctored sound bites in order to influence their audiences.

When you think about it, that appears to be a major reason for the dissension and anger displayed on both sides of the political aisle. There are too many wing-nuts, liberal and conservative, spewing their particular brands of hatred by any means necessary to influence their readers and listeners. These are people who believe that if the facts don’t concur with their opinions, then the facts must be changed.

As a moderate independent voter who votes for the person and not the party, I welcome ideas and comments from both sides and I use several political websites dedicated to ferreting out the truth to eliminate the garbage. I wish everyone would do the same. Things are bad enough without forming opinions based on lies and half-truths the wing-nuts bombard us with on a daily basis.

We all need to open our minds to the fact that what we believe to be true may not be. And if not, we need to be able to seek out what is true. That goes for our views of politicians, political parties, people in the media and life in general.
