Business bureau offers advice on keeping pets safe

The Better Business Bureau is offering advice on keeping pets safe at kennels during holiday travels.

Owners have told the bureau their pets returned from poorly run kennels dehydrated, malnourished, with fleas or ticks or even severely ill.

Tips for finding a proper kennel include getting recommendations and checking the Better Business Bureau website to see if it has a good track record.

Pet owners should personally visit the facility and ask lots of questions about how the staff keeps pets safe and how pets come in contact with one another. Follow your instincts after noting staff members’ friendliness and how they interact with boarded pets.

Make sure the kennel is following state regulations and that it requires proof of immunization.
