Libertyville soccer star joins Swedish club

Former Chicago Fire midfielder Baggio Husidic has found a new home in Sweden.

The Libertyville High School standout and UIC product had his contract option declined by the Fire after the 2011 season, and he went to Colorado in stage 2 of the MLS re-entry draft. However, Husidic opted to sign with Hammarby, according to the Swedish club’s website. Hammarby’s new coach is former U.S. national team defender Gregg Berhalter, who recently retired from the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Husidic played three seasons with the Fire after being drafted out of UIC, but his playing time was cut last season.

Meanwhile, the Fire still is working to sign its selection in the second stage of the re-entry draft, forward Kheli Dube.
