Clemson outlasts Southern Illinois 83-75 in OT

HONOLULU — Tanner Smith scored 10 of his game-high 26 points in overtime to lead Clemson to an 83-75 win over Southern Illinois in a consolation semifinal of the Diamond Head Classic Friday.

Rod Hall scored 18 points, Devin Booker scored 16 and Andre Young had 11 points for Clemson (7-6). The Tigers made all 15 of their free throws in overtime. Smith’s three-point play with 1:59 left in the extra period put Clemson ahead to stay.

Southern Illinois (3-7) led 62-59 with 11.3 seconds to play in regulation following Davante Drinkard’s free throw, but Clemson’s Rod Hall made a driving layup with 3.8 seconds left and converted the free throw to tie it at 62 after he was fouled on the play.

Mamadou Seck had a chance to win it for SIU in regulation, but his 3-point try as time expired was no good.
