Lake Zurich Rotary Club gives to food pantry
Every Thursday night, a great deal of community work and volunteerism comes together to provide a significant number of Lake County families groceries and sundries at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at St. Francis de Sales Parish in Lake Zurich.
On Dec. 8, some Lake Zurich Rotary Club members presented a $4,000 check to the pantry. Presenting the check were Rotarians John Casper, Nancy Shepherdson, Larry Ginsberg, Jenny Plohr, Dave Wheelock, Dale Perrin and Mike Carlino.
Laurianne Chapman, President of St. Vincent de Paul Society, as well as co-chairs of the Pantry Jim Westney and Ciri Stom, were there to accept the donation. Laurianne noted that the cash donation will help tide the pantry over during leaner times. The pantry leverages every dollar they have through cooperative and smart purchasing programs. The pantry is assisted by a large contingent of donors and the Rotary Club was pleased to be a part of it.
The Rotary club conducts a number of fundraising events through out the year to help a variety of local and international charitable or humanitarian projects. The most recent event was the Halloween party sponsored by Rotary and other local businesses. Proceeds from that event were directly earmarked to help provide the food pantry donation. Rotary is always seeking additional members and support so that the club can continue and expand its charitable work.
