Outdoors notes

Those December hallucinations are still driving me nuts.

With the non-typical area weather we've encountered, I keep expecting we will get dumped on to the tune of 2-3 feet of the white stuff. Without any ice to satisfy the hard-water gang, some anglers have started to head back to area lakes.

It appears if you want ice fishing, it's advisable to head to the far reaches of northern Wisconsin. Fox Chain: There is walleye action going on for those willing to explore Pistakee Lake as well as shallow areas of Fox Lake. Perhaps if you can handle the cold weather, you may want to explore the Spring Lake Channel for muskie and walleye.

Fox River: Crappie action continues close to the gambling boat in Elgin.

Lake Michigan: Jack Martins reported he's having a ball with yellow perch. He believes it could be a perch bonanza this weekend.
