Des Plaines police to enforce seat belt law over holidays

Des Plaines police officers will be conducting citywide seat belt enforcement 24/7 over the holiday weekend. Drivers and front seat passengers are being ticketed for not wearing their seat belts, as well as drivers who allow children to be unbuckled. The Christmas Campaign is funded by an Illinois Department of Transportation traffic safety grant. Police also are raising awareness about a new law that goes into effect Jan. 1 requiring all occupants of a motor vehicle to wear safety belts while the vehicle is in use on a roadway. The Des Plaines Police Department also will be conducting a roadside safety checkpoint Friday, Dec. 23, in the 2000 block of East Rand Road.
