Suburbia's Got Talent: Geneva High School's lip dub

It all started as a project to jolt students out of a midsemester funk, according to Jason Santo.

"I'd seen (lip dubs) over the summer and thought it would be cool if we could pull one off," said Santo, a first-year broadcast teacher at Geneva High School. "I thought it might invigorate everyone."

Now known as the Viking Lip Dub, the video, shot by senior Luke Tottman and produced by junior Joanie Educate, took on a life of its own.

Shot in a single take using a Steadicam mount to keep the camera from wobbling, it follows a freshman student on a journey through the high school, as he encounters enthusiastic classmates dancing to and lip-syncing Kenny Loggins' "Footloose."

With the help of about 630 student volunteers who stayed after school on a half day, the shoot took place in November and was an instant hit on YouTube, garnering about 12,000 views so far.

Principal Tom Rogers likes the result so much, he plans to use it to showcase the school to incoming eighth-graders and their parents.

"They did a phenomenal job," Rogers said of the broadcasting students, Santos and all the students who volunteered.
