Naperville boosting parking fines

Motorists who park illegally in Naperville can expect to dig a little deeper beginning Jan. 9 when fines are scheduled to increase.

The minimum fine for parking violations will jump on that date from $30 to $50. The cost of a “compromise fine” for those who pay their citations within 15 days will increase from $15 to $25.

Fines for parking in a fire lane will rise to $100 from the previous $50, with compromise fines increasing to $60 from $30.

The increases will affect all parking violations except those involving disability (handicap) parking violations, which will remain at $250. In addition, violations related to the Washington Street parking bans that are in effect during the morning hours of 6 to 8:30 a.m. and evening hours of 4 to 7 p.m. will remain at $50.

The last time the city increased its parking fines was November 1999. Citations issued before Jan. 9 will not be affected.
